Dan Wheldon dies in horrific fireball crash
Two time Indy 500 winner Dan Wheldon from Olney, Buckinghamshire has died following a horrific 15 car crash on lap 11 of the 200 lap Indycar Classic at Las Vegas Speedway on Sunday 16 October 2011.
Wheldon started at the back of the field, and had to overtake the field ahead of him, including championship contenders Will Power and Scotland’s Dario Franchitti to win the $5 million prize.
He leaves a wife Susie and two sons Oliver (seven months) and Sebastian (two years)
